Jeevika: Skill-Based Livelihood Enhancement for Rural Women and Youth
In Maharashtra’s Yavatmal district, where 95% of Agricultural land depends on erratic monsoon rains, declining productivity and climate stress have pushed rural families especially women and youth into economic uncertainty. To create sustainable alternatives, Social Capital Initiatives, in partnership with Dilasa Sanstha, launched Jeevika, a skill-based livelihood initiative across 20 villages of Pandharkawda block.
Through a series of focused training in beekeeping, electrical work, door and window fabrication, and SHG record-keeping, the project equips 300 beneficiaries with practical, income-generating skills. Women-led Self-Help Groups (SHGs) are being strengthened through training on systematic record management and savings, fostering long-term financial independence. Youth are being prepared for self-employment through vocational courses designed to meet local market demand.
The initiative also emphasizes sustainability through the formation of Utpadak Sanghs (Village Resource Groups) that ensure post-training support, mentorship, and linkage with government schemes. With strong community participation and local ownership, Jeevika is not only expanding livelihood options but also nurturing leadership and confidence among women and youth creating pathways toward economic resilience and social inclusion.
