BUILDING CLIMATE CHANGE RESILIENT SYSTEM IN AGRICULTURE FOR SMALL AND MARGINALIZED FARMERS WITH SAMVARDHAN(GSMT)

 INITIATIVES

Environmental & Sustainability

The project with Samvardhan will be in Vidarbha region of Maharashtra where there is a need to initiate climate change resilient agriculture practices to reduce the effect of climate change on agriculture. It will directly engage with 1200 farmer beneficiaries and make them ready for climate change adaptation and sustainable livelihood. The main intervention will include de-siltation of the first order and second order stream so that it will restore the water table as  flood control will be achieved in the area.

Farmers will perform SoCC earning activities like stream mapping, watershed management work, farm bunding, plantation drive, forming farmers groups for policy level intervention and advocacy, etc.

And redeem it for soil testing of all farmers farmland, de-siltation of first order streams, establishment of organic manure unit, support for organic cultivation toolkits, etc. 

This project will make farmers ready to fight against climate change, promote entrepreneurship among farmers groups and help to restore the water resources in the area and will impact policy making related to agriculture issues

PROJECT FEATURES:​​

  • De-siltation of 2 first order streams will increase the water availability in 2 villages and will impact a 5 square kilometer area. The water scarcity of two villages will be addressed through this intervention.

This project contributes to 6 of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
