SEEDLESS LEMON TREE PLANTATION PROGRAM
In partnership with Sankalptaru Foundation, Asia Initiatives is supporting a seedless lemon tree plantation program to empower women farmers in Assam, India. Due to low green cover, neglectful waste management, and overgrown weeds, the women farmers in the area have dealt with significantly low crop yields and struggle to support themselves and their families. Through the program, the women farmers will develop a reliable means of financial and communal support. Women are earning SoCCs by segregating waste, contributing to organic compost and by participating in community cleaning activities. They are redeeming SoCCs for seedless lemon tree saplings, training support on care and management of seedless lemon trees and marketing assistance. These trees are meant to bear fruit in 3-5 years after which there is a guarantee of significant income increase for over a decade every year.
