SoCCs FOR CONTEXTUALIZED MULTI-LEVEL LEARNING IN CONFLICT AREAS
In Bihar, India, the average literacy is 13% below the national average of 74% and is 41% below the national average for women (2011). Asia Initiatives, in collaboration with Karunodaya, is battling those statistics by developing primary school classes into learning spaces where children can excel in their needed fundamental and foundational skills. The program is established in 14 Government schools where the children can earn SoCCs through library activities like storytelling (reading aloud, pair reading, shared reading etc.) and library management. As part of their SoCCs redemption menu, participants receive a Kids Who Kode session for a year during which they learn about introductory computer courses, Microsoft Office and language classes such as HTML, QBASIC, SCRATCH as well as English classes.
