SoCCs FOR DIGITAL LITERACY

In order to battle against the strong cultural and environmental barriers such as gender inequality, poverty, inadequate support, and child marriages, Asia Initiatives is striving to bridge the digital divide and empower adolescent girls in all communities by supporting their education and development.

Initially meant to begin in 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this project was put on hold to ensure community health safety precautions were being implemented and followed. In 2022, this project was able to resume as part of Asia Initiatives’ SoCCs Cascade of Learning program in partnership with Deendayal Bahuuddeshiya Prasarak Mandal. 300 children, primarily young girls, earn SoCCs by mentoring or tutoring two younger children, thrice a week which they can later redeem for modules provided by Grow with Google. A total of 6 digital literacy centers in collaboration with local schools and colleges were set up and equipped with laptops and low-cost tech solutions such as Raspberry Pis. The project improves the livelihood potential of the girls by ensuring that they stay and succeed in school and teaching them life- skills necessary to address the challenges they are facing.
